Getting a New Gas Meter
Business gas meters are used to track energy usage. After choosing an energy supplier, these meters ensure accurate billing for your business' consumption.

There are a few reasons to get a new gas meter:

-
If you move to a new place without a gas supply.
-
During property renovations when you need to relocate the meter.
-
When your current meter is faulty or has served its certified lifespan (typically 10-40 years).
What We Require
To get started on your gas meter installation we will require the following:
-
A signed letter of authority
-
An estimated annual consumption (kWh)
-
MPRN Number
-
Hourly Loud Requirements to help us determine what type of meter you require
-
A work completion date

How Long Will It Take?
We will collate the information and assess your priority, whether it's the lowest cost or the quickest meter installation.

-
We aim to provide you with price quotes within 3 working days.
-
If you wish to proceed, inform us, and we'll issue the contract within 1 working day.
-
It takes 5 working days for the meter to register in the national database, after which we'll schedule an installation date.
-
While the typical lead time is 4-5 weeks, we'll strive to meet your preferred timeframe.

In a hurry?
We can expedite meter installations, potentially completing them in less than the standard 4-5 weeks, subject to installation availability.
However, please note that this service or scheduling an 'out-of-hours' appointment typically incurs an additional charge. After sending the request for tender, we'll provide you with pricing and estimated dates, aiming to complete the process within 2 weeks.
What size gas meter do I need?
Just like residential households, small businesses may have similar energy requirements.
In contrast, commercial buildings tend to consume significantly larger quantities of gas. Medium-sized enterprises frequently have energy demands ranging from 70 kilowatts (kW) to 150kW, while the largest businesses may utilize 1000kW or an even greater amount.
Every business using gas has a maximum requirement, which represents the total amount of gas its appliances could potentially consume within an hour.
Hourly Load | Meter Type |
---|---|
1484 KW + | Rotary/Turbine |
1084 KW to 1484 KW | U160 |
705 KW to 1083 KW | U100 |
434 KW to 704 KW | U65 |
271 KW to 433 KW | U40 |
174 KW to 270 KW | U25 |
65 KW to 173 KW | U16 |
Up to 64 KW | U6 |
How much will it cost?
Business energy prices are customised to fit each company's specific needs.
The type of gas meter chosen also depends on how much gas your business uses.
Therefore, installation costs vary based on the meter requirements for your business and the energy supplier you select.
